A little about us
Dr. Daniel Bishop (Dr. Dan) has been a mental health and substance abuse professional for the past 35 years. In addition to various credentials in specialized populations, disorders and treatment approaches at the State and International levels (hypnosis, substance use disorders and various compulsive behaviors, EMDR, Forensics, relationships, crisis), he is a licensed counselor in Illinois and Wisconsin as well as a licensed Psychologist in Wisconsin. Dr. Dan teaches courses in counseling and psychology for people pursuing Master and Doctorate degrees in counseling and psychology. He works both full time and part time at various universities in Illinois and Wisconsin and is in high demand because he can bring book work, research and the real world to the classroom using his engaging and relaxed approach. His teaching emphasis focuses primarily on addiction recovery, brief therapy, family and couple counseling, crisis and wellness. In addition to teaching, Dr. Dan provides trainings and seminars to professionals regarding issues related to mental health and wellness throughout the Midwest.
Dr. Dan entered the field with a strong desire to figure himself out and in the process became interested in how people create patterns of self-defeating behaviors, making and maintaining lifestyles even though they are not rewarding and finding themselves stuck in patterns of behaviors/feelings/thoughts which produce outcomes not in keeping with where they want to be in life. He feels honored when clients choose to work with him as they move down the road to make positive behavioral, cognitive and emotional changes in their relationships and everyday decisions.
Dr. Dan enjoys maintaining a small caseload of clients, focusing on each person and relationship as unique, working with 10-15 clients/couples weekly and approximately one couple retreat a month. Relationship issues, conflicted parenting, addictive disorders (both substance abuse and process addictions such as video gaming, internet pornography, gambling), trauma reactions, depression, anxiety, stress, and general feelings of life dissatisfaction are key concentrations of his practice.
Dr. Dan is a father of three children, avid motorcycle rider, kayaker and business consultant in the areas of leadership and management.
